Thread starter liangmike Start date May 29, I often find "Cnr" before a road name in an English address. Could someone tell me what does Cnr stand for and what is the meaning? Last edited: May 29, Corner, perhaps? English-Ireland top end. I have never seen this abbreviation on an address and it is not one of the standard Royal Mail or US Post Office abbreviations. It is probably corner, as alaethea suggests. In the post 1 example, that would be on the corner of Ramsay Road and Kingston Road.
Any building on such a corner would have a correct postal address on one or the other. I have seen this abbreviation for "corner".
Perhaps it's an antipodean thing. Alternately, you might see something like " Ramsay Rd cnr Kingston ". I think I agree that this wouldn't generally be used when addressing mail; you would simply give the street address. It is more often used in giving directions to a location.
